What is osteopathy ?

Osteopathy is a form of hands on therapy that is used to diagnose, treat and prevent problems with an individual's musculoskeletal system. If joints, ligaments or muscles are not functioning correctly, pain can be the result.

Osteopaths use a range of techniques that are tailored to you as an individual depending on your age and level of fitness. These include joint manipulations (the "pops & clicks"), soft tissue massage, stretching and cranial techniques (also known as cranial osteopathy). Osteopaths also give advice on exercise and lifestyle issues as part of your treatment management plan.

What do Osteopaths Treat ?

Here at Reading Osteopaths we treat a wide range of problems but osteopaths are best known for treating back and neck pain. Osteopathy can also be helpful in alleviating the pain of:

  • Degenerative joint conditions

  • Hip, pelvis, knee and leg problems

  • Aches and pains in pregnancy and postpartum

  • Some sports injuries

  • Back & neck pain

  • Shoulder pain

Osteopaths in the UK must be registered with the General Osteopathic Council (GOSc)
